The 40th Anniversary of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists’ (CAJ) establishment

In the morning of 11/27/2015, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the 40th Anniversary of the CAJ’s establishment.

Mr. Thuan Huu - member of Vietnam Central Party, Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association, General Editor of the People's Newspaper awarded the second prize to the author of Indonesia.


Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, President of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists in the 2013-2015 period Benny Antiporda, senior journalists of Vietnam, reprehensive of of CAJ attended the ceremony. Attending the meeting, there were also delegation of Journalist Association of associated countries; Journalists Association from China, India, South Korea, and etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized that: We are very happy and honored to witness this special moment in the history of ASEAN development, which is the founding of the ASEAN Community on the occasion 40th anniversary of the CAJ’s establishment. This is an opportunity for ASEAN Community to review the development, contribution, and dedication of CAJ for the general development of ASEAN, and set up the direction to strive for a new development phase. Currently, the regional and international situation has been complicated and faced with many challenges for the peace, development, especially on security, safety and freedom of navigation. To maintain the peace, stability, and create a favorable environment for development, the Confederation, the press of ASEAN countries should enhance knowledge of peoples, promote cooperation among nations, and promote justice in resolving disputes and disagreements by peaceful solutions according to the international law .

The Confederation of ASEAN Journalists - a professional organization of journalists in the region, was established in Indonesia in 1975. For 40 years of operation and development, from five countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand), at the present, CAJ have strongly developed with 7 official member countries, 3 associated members and 5 observers from nations outside the region. In July of 1995, Vietnam Journalists Association joined the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists, the same year when Vietnam became officially ASEAN member.

The Chairman of Vietnam Journalists Association Thuan Huu emphasized that as a member of CAJ, in the past 20 years, Vietnam Journalists' Association and Vietnam Newspaper has positively contributed to the general operation of the Confederation. The Vietnam Newspaper Association and ASEAN press have significantly added to ensure the peace, stability, security and development of the region and the world. The press of ASEAN countries is the cultural bridge bringing ASEAN people closer and knowing each other more clearly.

At the ceremony, the organizers also awarded the photos prize on climate change. 8 outstanding works were awarded, including one first prize, one second prize, one third prize and 5 consolation prizes. The first prize was awarded to journalist Nova Wahyudi of Indonesia Journalist Association. Journalist Pham Bang of Vietnam Journalists Association was awarded the third prize.
